Listen to any kind of election news, and it seems that we are impossibly at odds. “A nation divided.” That phrase can erode a bit more inner peace every time we hear it. It’s not in alignment with our souls, which run on unity, not separation.
So if you want to feel more peaceful, what could be better than making your own private peace offering?
It’s easy.
Just bake some cookies.
And then give them to someone who sees things differently than you do.
In fact, give them to someone who might vote for the candidate you’re not supporting.
Your ego mind, the part of you that wants to be right, will insist that this is a bad idea. But your higher mind, the part that understands the nature of harmony, will recognize the wisdom in it.
With your higher mind’s help, you may even wrap the cookies in a special box and tie it with a bow.
The point is, if we don’t want divisiveness, we have to be the agents of unity.
So find a recipe or a favorite bakery and leave the gift on your “enemy’s” doorstep.
There’s no better unifier than baked goods. I discovered this years ago when I went to Rotary Club lunches and saw the most successful people in our community let down their guard when they passed around the plates of cookies at the end of the meal. It brought out the five-year-old in all of us.
Who knew that chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies are the great equalizer?
Giving the gift of unity will make you feel more peaceful, no matter how the recipient reacts.
That’s the key: Don’t give the gift hoping it will sway someone’s vote. Give because you want to create peace in you.
We’re only divided if we believe we are. We can start changing that today.
Oh, and take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay.

Deb, these ideas for us to create our own “election peace” are just great — as remarkable as they are simple. And they make so much sense you can almost feel them working as you read them! Thanks for writing them!
Simply beautiful.🥰 and quite brilliant! Bypass right and wrong and go directly to what has always united us… The most basic need we share… Food. And to sweeten the deal, make it a cookie! Shared comfort, shared goodness. I love this.
