Years ago, in one of my A Course in Miracles classes, a friend shared a story that stayed with me. There had been some tension in her family—friction that she didn’t know how to fix. She didn’t try to control it or force a solution. Instead, she said a quiet prayer: “Let there be peace in my little corner of the world.”
And something beautiful happened. The situation that seemed unresolvable began to soften. The conflict healed in an unexpected way. Peace arrived—not through effort or strategy, but through invitation.
That simple prayer has stayed with me. Peace in my little corner of the world. It can sound small, even selfish, in a world that often feels like it's falling apart. But it isn’t. In fact, it’s wise. Because none of our little corners exist in isolation. We live in adjacency. Our lives overlap. Our energies intermingle. Our hearts beat in rhythm with one another’s, whether we’re aware of it or not.
So when I ask for peace in my corner, I’m not saying “just for me.” I’m saying, “Let it begin here.” Let my corner be the starting place. Let this be where peace plants its roots—so it can grow into something larger, something shared. Because from a peaceful place, I can extend peace. I can speak and act from peace. I can think peaceful thoughts, and offer peaceful energy. And maybe—just maybe—peace will seep from my corner into yours.
Imagine if we all did that.
Imagine if every one of us made peace—not success, not approval, not wealth, not even perfect health or relationships—but peace the priority. If each of us said: Let me think with a mind of peace. Let me see through the lens of peace. Let me speak with the voice of peace. Let divine love move through me, in whatever way it needs to, to reach someone else’s corner.
That’s not passive. That’s not small. That is a mighty act of healing.
It brings new meaning to a phrase we all know: I’m in your corner. Not to fix your life or control it. Not to tell you how it should look. But to stand in my corner so firmly, so peacefully, that the love flowing through me can reach you too. So that what I cultivate in my space naturally spills into yours.
Peace in my little corner of the world.
I believe that’s where it begins.
Sending blessings,
Deb
“I could see peace instead of this.”
That’s one of my favorite lines from A Course in Miracles. In fact, in my copy of the Course, which I bought in 1986, I underlined that passage, put a star by it, and wrote “Wow!” (My book is filled with these margin notes, reminding me of the countless ah-ha moments I’ve had—and continue to have—as I come back to the Course day after day.)
The power of the teaching about peace is in this passage: “Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.”
In other words, as we’ve heard many times, peace is an inside job. Even more than that, it’s always available to us. It’s not dependent on the behavior of others or world events or who’s in office or how much money is in our retirement fund.
Peace is our choice. And we have the power to choose it again and again. In The Only Little Prayer You Need, I wrote this:
Our egos want us to think that to be happy we need that house, that car, that iPad, that whatever, and so we strive and work and train and finagle and cajole our way to buy the things we think we need. And where love is concerned, things can be equally distorted. Having grown up hearing stories of romantic tragedy, we may think love is real only if it’s tenuous or complicated.
In fact, we are bombarded by messages that tell us our goal is to be promoted…or to be seen as successful…or to compete well…or to win…or to have more stuff in our garage than the folks down the street do. We are not bombarded by messages that say, “What if you just went for peace of mind?”
When that thought first enters your consciousness as a real possibility, your ego is likely to say, “How boring is that?” But when you start to seriously entertain the prospect of a peaceful mind, you find that in it lies your strength and true happiness. You move to an internal state of well-being that is no longer determined by what you have or whom you know, and you start to feel impervious to fear—not because you’ve built barriers to danger, but because you’ve dismantled the barriers to love.
I do love guides with a sense of humor!
In my A Course in Miracles study group, we often talk about being in alignment with your higher Self—the part of you that remembers the light that you are.
This week during one of our classes, I heard this message coming through: “If you get out of alignment, call on Divine Love for an adjustment. Spirit is the universal chiropractor.”
Ha…I’m calling for an appointment!
What’s coming up?
I OFFER A FREE GROUP COACHING SESSION via Zoom the first Wednesday of each month—available to all my paid subscribers. It’s a sacred pause in the middle of your week, a chance to reconnect with your inner wisdom and with others walking a spiritually centered path.
We always begin with a short guided meditation to settle in and open space for clarity. From there, we move into heartfelt discussion—you’re welcome to bring up anything that’s on your mind. Sometimes we talk about spiritual growth, relationships, resistance, loss, or just how to get through a hard week with more peace.
It’s casual, warm, and full of insight. Over and over, people tell me they arrive feeling discouraged, anxious, or overwhelmed—and leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more peaceful.
It’s community, coaching, and connection—all in one gentle hour.
The next session will be this Wednesday, June 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern/10 to 11 a.m. Pacific, and I’d love to see you there. To upgrade your subscription to paid and get the log-in, click here.

This line from a song comes to mind: “let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” Indeed.
